When Frank Body first launched their body scrub made from coffee grinds in 2013, there couldn’t have a been a hipper wave to be on. The founders, friends Jess Hatzis, Bree Johnson and Erika Geraerts, Alex Boffa and Steve Rowley are from Melbourne. It’s arguably the birthplace of coffee culture that has washed London in a milky brown glow and since turned the capital’s high streets into cafes-only zones selling £3 flat whites. But trying to be hip was not the group’s objective.

Steve owns cafes in Melbourne and would have requests for old coffee grinds from customers – most of them were wanting to fertilize plants, but a few ingenious ladies were creating body scrubs. The founders tried it out too and soon they had coffee grind formula that became a cult product. After repeated requests from customers, they’ve launched a new face range – a moisturiser, scrub and cleanser.

The clue is in the name. These products are designed to be simple and not stuffed with dubious, complicated ingredients. Our favourite of the three caffeinated face products is the Creamy Face Cleanser, made from green coffee bean extract (known for stimulating blood flow and targeting skin conditions such as acne, eczema and rosacea), charcoal and marshmallow root that does what it claims; soothes and reduces redness leaving skin super soft. Use it twice a day and double cleanse in the evening.

With the same base ingredients used in the original scrubs – grape seed, coconut and almond oil – the Everyday Face Moisturiser isn’t too heavy on the skin and doesn’t leave a sticky residue or roll.  Those who acid-tone will pass on the Creamy Face Scrub. This is for those who like rough exfoliation. Though the grind of the body scrub has been reduced to a finer texture, sensitive skins should sample first. The range is budget friendly too; the cleanser is £15.95 as is the moisturiser and the scrub is £17.95.
