On the corner of Crawford and Upper Montagu Streets in Marylebone, a stone's throw from the fashionista favourite Chiltern Street, you'll find a grey fronted store which you may walk past and mistake for a stylish interiors showroom. This is the new home of Lyn Harris, the perfumer behind the British fragrance house Miller Harris. Lyn founded Miller Harris and industriously built it up until it became an international commercial success... and then walked away. It's a familiar story in the world of fashion and design when founders become bogged down by the practicalities of running a successful business and spend less time on the creative side which inspired them in the first place.
After family and life made Lyn decide to take time out of the commercial and retail side of Miller Harris, the space for reflection gave her the push she needed to go back to what she loved best about perfumery and what she loved was bespoke perfumery and an artisanal approach to design and packaging. Perfumer H is her new baby which is as much about the experience of visiting the store and the process of choosing the fragrance, as the smelly stuff inside the bottle. Showcasing new seasonal ready-to-wear collections of fragrances and candles, for a little bit more you can also buy one of her Laboratory Edition fragrances which lets you pay for the privilege of owning the the formula so no-one else can wear the same fragrance. The perfumes and candles are all housed in hand-blown coloured glass jars and bottles by Michael Ruh Studio and can be engraved with your initials for a truly personalised gift. Because sat down with Lyn to hear about her new creations for winter 2015.
