A Mauli, a red Hindu thread, doesn’t scream or shout rather it gently, calmly jingles as the wearer gets on with their day, offering protection and well-being. And this is what inspires the beauty brand Mauli, which is dedicated to wellness and calming beauty that works in relation to Indian Ayurvedic principles working from the inside out. “We just want people to feel better for using our products, so there was no better name for me than Mauli,” explains Anita Kaushal, Mauli’s co-founder from inside her North London home.
This small boutique brand is taking “one day at a time” but is already stocked on Net-a-Porter and the Conran Shop, while they are simultaneously developing treatments at the Bulgari spas in London and Milan. And with each product you buy – we can’t recommend more highly the sandalwood, rose and saffron clay exfoliant – Mauli donates to charity. “We're now wanting to set up a fund when we can give people the tools to learn Ayurveda so they themselves can earn an income,” Kaushal adds.
The products contain ingredients sourced in India and all crafted and poured in the UK. The Himalayan bath salts contain 84 trace minerals to help heal from the inside, while the facial serum is a rich blend of 16 different botanicals. And the new candle smells and look divine in a deep red glass: “There’s writing on the inside, and it's screen-printed by hand with a simple little message about taking the time to think that I hope our customers really connect with.”
“A lot of our materials come from India because they are really opulent, therapeutic, very rich in minerals and who doesn't love sandalwood, jasmine, rose and vetiver?” says Anita. And we couldn't agree more.
