Penhaligon’s launches their new fragrance, a fragrant ode to Savile Row, with a brand

Because We Smell Good | Sept 1, 2025

Penhaligon’s takes a sharp turn down Savile Row with The Cut – a fragrance that’s as tailored as it is timeless.

By Matteo Pini

For over 150 years, Savile Row has been the home of the finest tailoring in the world. Whether you were Charles Dickens, Winston Churchill or Mick Jagger, you were assured to find a meticulously crafted suit on Mayfair’s most storied street. Now, Penhaligon’s pays homage to the proud heritage of the Row with their new fragrance, The Cut.

A reinterpretation of the classic fougere, The Cut harkens back to the early 1970s, where suits shed their institutional trappings and became a mainstay of the trendiest figures of the period – Terence Stamp, Elton John, Marvin Gaye. Appropriately, its scent profile straddles the old and the new, a nod to the botanical heritage of the brand. A refreshing bouquet of florals opens the fragrance, clary sage and lavender, freshened by sprightly mint and aromatic basil. A base of woods adds solidity to the fragrance, drying down to a resinous and relaxing cedarwood finale. As with the brand’s other perfumes, it is effortlessly classy and distinctive, an ideal fragrance for all genders and age groups.

To celebrate the launch of The Cut, Penhaligon’s has collaborated with TANK Magazine for Notes on The Cut, an exclusive publication. In it, the finest faces of contemporary fashion from Savile Row and beyond speak on what the future holds for tailoring. Women-owned businesses like Banshees of Savile Row and Knatchbull bring a new femininity to what was once a man’s game; Rav Matharu of acclaimed brand clothsurgeon blends bespoke tailoring with streetwear aesthetics, and a new generation of young designers brings sartorial excellence to their graduate shows.

As with the fragrance itself, Notes on The Cut balances tradition with modernity, capturing the spirit of Savile Row today while nodding to its illustrious past. You can shop The Cut on the Penhaligon’s website, and pick a copy of Notes on The Cut at their stores for a limited time only.
