What We’re Looking Forward To for 2025

We get a million press releases a day here at Because HQ, and we delight in sifting through them to edit down what we think matters, and explain why.

because we're obsessed | Jan 9, 2025

2025 is going to be rough. There’s no two ways about it - from politics to social media to fashion, the tension is present. But it’s at these moments when there is the most opportunity for change.  So we’ve asked some of our team to share the things they are most excited about for 2025 - from fashion, to music, to exhibitions and more in case they inspire and provide another lens in which to discover.

One Pierced Wonder
For 2025 I will be investing in curating my ear. I’ve had 13 piercings over the years and only 4 have survived, due to the constant switching out of cheap earrings and ultimately losing half of them. I want to start investing in the piercing jewellery itself. You’ll find me making bi-monthly bookings at Maria Tash in Liberty where they help curate the perfect piercing design for your ears and do them in a way you won’t need to change them out ever again. Another notable mention is Hannah Martin Pierced, offering collections of jewellery designed to be pierced with which aren’t just pretty studs but sculptural pieces which still offer that slight edge.

Plus Size Secondhand
I recently found out about Thick Threads, London’s coolest plus size closet sale, hosted by Alessia Golfetto,  Nine, Rebecca Louisy, Lucy Knell, Skye Standley and Char Ellesse at the Hoxton hotel. Buying second hand as a plus size person is less than inspiring, often pushing you to reduce your options to fast fashion alternatives even if you don’t support it. So I’m pleased and excited to see these girls offering fashionable, interesting second hand clothes that don’t just cater to a sample size. Sign me up to the waitlist!!

Retinal to not Retinol
For a while the word retinol has appeared slightly intimidating to me. I’ve seen the success stories sprawled along TikTok’s and reals but nothing could convince me to start the journey in fear of that slighting terrifying skin adjustment phase. That is until I learned about Retinal. The more delicate sister to Retinol with less risk but apparently more reward. The only catch being the price, but this year is looking like the one for investments (and hopefully smoother skin!)

Chunkier the Better!
I’m putting my foot down, and it shan’t be wearing ballet flats! Season after season the  ballet flat has prevailed as the shoe of the year, prancing straight off the runway and right into my wardrobe. I need to go back to my roots, bring back the Molly Goddard creepers, Simone Rocha chunky platforms and Martine Rose extra wide soles, chunkier the better for 2025!
