Extending their signature spikes from clothes to couches, Chet Lo and Rankin Editions marries aesthetics with ergonomics for a collection that looks like it can kill, but really means to cuddle.

Fashion design is at its most interesting when it innovates beyond just new silhouettes and stretches our imagination with new horizons. What would that dress look like if it was a chair? How would this pair of shoes be transformed into a coffee table? Fashion’s beautiful and sometimes bonkers (see Rick Owens’ wax model chairs of his own body) relationship with furniture is nothing new, just search for denim maverick Diesel and their lifestyle capsule with Italian furniture makers Moroso for a case in point. Even Virgil Abloh’s Off-White x Ikea collaboration was met with the same hype as a new fashion drop; launched in 2019 and with enough buzz to have thousands queuing outside of the Wembley Ikea store. In the latest iteration of fashion x furniture, London-loved, be-spike brand Chet Lo has collaborated with Rankin Editions interior design studio on a capsule that collides avant-garde silhouettes with signature design codes.
Blending artistry and technology, Chet Lo’s strikingly spiky designs confirmed him as a favourite on the London fashion scene. Bringing a totally unique aesthetic and technique to knitwear, the softness of wool is transformed into visually piercing pieces. A Chet Lo piece can be identified by deceptively soft spikes, speckled over dresses and trousers, giving knitwear a savage edge. The brand’s effervescence, personified by Chet’s own ecstatic runs down his runway finales, has continued to bubble and while the brand’s unique point of view could have restricted them into a repetitive vision, the Rankin capsule displays an expert extension of their aesthetic. Rankin’s Jet Lag chaise longue, chair, couch and pillows are all given the Chet Lo treatment. The spiked textured surface flows into ergonomic comfort and has been crafted in midnight blue, off-white and carmine red. The Red-Eye stool is squared off in a geometric silhouette and the spiky cushion adds pointed texture when thrown amongst other soft furnishings. The capsule is available to shop from 9th Jan, and don’t worry, we know the sofa looks like a real thorn in your side but it’s all just a beautiful illusion.
