Come Clean
A new fragrance collaboration between Jil Sander and Coty fuses botany and technology.
Jil Sander ventures further into the world of beauty with a fragrance line rooted in natural processes.
Across its nearly five-decade history as a fashion house, Jil Sander has become synonymous with certain ineffable qualities: precision tailoring, high-quality fabrics, and clothes whose minimalism exudes an understated power. Even the words “Jil Sander” carry a crisp, no-nonsense mouthfeel.
Now, in collaboration with legacy French fragrance house Coty, Jil Sander is releasing a new line of fragrances in a continuation of the brand’s balancing act of modernity, simplicity and luxury. Olfactory Series 1 comprises six fragrances formulated by industry legends like Nathalie Lorson and Paul Guerlain, each with a prominent aldehyde note. Aldehydes have a clean scent reminiscent of fresh laundry, with a sparkling, metallic quality that can balance more intense accords. Clarity and simplicity are key features of the collection, with each fragrance boasting three key notes, a philosophy perfectly in tune with the brand’s less-is-more identity.
Nature is a prominent theme, both in the scent profiles – perfumes are themed around smoke, black tea and honey, among others – and the raw materials, with each bottle using up cycled alcohol. From woody, resinous scents to something on the fresher side, there is a fragrance here for everyone.
In line with recent trends by Bottega Venata and MERIT, the bottles are a work of art unto themselves. Designed in collaboration with Formafantasma, a design studio straddling Milan and Rotterdam, the bottles are intentionally imperfect, making each one unique. A sleek white aluminum cap not only protects the fragrance from UV damage but adds a final touch of luxury.
Jil Sander’s first unisex perfume line, Olfactory Series 1, sees the brand having fun with their established design codes while continuing to innovate with form and function.
